Madrid, 26 March – Lleida.net (BME: LLN) (EPA: ALLLN) has been awarded its ninth patent in the United States by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), further strengthening its position in registered electronic communications.

The newly granted patent (US 12,563,028 B2) protects the company’s method for certifying electronic notifications under the eIDAS framework, the European regulation governing electronic identification and trust services.

Granted on 24 February 2026, the patent covers a system that enables telecom operators to send registered notifications via email or SMS while verifying the recipient’s identity through a proxy server linked to a certification authority.

The technology ensures that only the intended recipient can access the notification, using a digital certificate installed in the user’s browser.

The method also offers robust protection against AI-driven fraud and deepfake-based impersonation, preventing any third party, human or automated, from intercepting or falsifying certified communications.

Filed under the title “Platform and method for certifying an electronic notification for electronic identification and trust services (eIDAS)”, the patent builds on earlier US patents held by the company, including US 10,938,802 and US 11,750,592. The invention is credited to Francisco Sapena Soler, founder and CEO of Lleida.net.

As digital signatures become increasingly critical in safeguarding electronic communications, Lleida.net’s eIDAS notification method is gaining traction as a reliable defence against emerging forms of fraud. The system prevents third-party impersonation, a key requirement in jurisdictions such as Spain, where registered notifications are mandatory before civil litigation under Organic Law 1/2025.

Around 3.5 million legal proceedings are processed annually in Spain under this framework. Similar regulatory requirements are expected to be adopted in other jurisdictions, significantly expanding the addressable market for this technology.

Lleida.net also holds the corresponding European patent for this method and has built a portfolio of more than 300 patents across over 60 countries, covering registered electronic signature, notification, and contracting technologies.

“Digital signatures are the strongest defence against the misuse of artificial intelligence in fraudulent processes. This patent protects a method that ensures notifications reach only their intended recipient and retain full legal validity in court,” said Sisco Sapena, founder and CEO of Lleida.net.

Founded in 1995, Lleida.net is one of Europe’s leading providers of registered notification, electronic contracting, and digital signature services. The company’s shares are listed on BME Growth in Madrid, as well as on Euronext Paris and the Stuttgart and Frankfurt stock exchanges.

In 2018, Lleida.net became the first Spanish company to achieve eIDAS certification. The company started 2026 with 8,886 active clients, up 55.62% year-on-year, and reported record financial results in 2025, with EBITDA of €4.05 million and pre-tax profit of €1.40 million.
